The Property Appraiser is an elected county constitutional officer whose duties are prescribed by Florida Law.  The office of the Property Appraiser is not controlled by the County Commission or any other Taxing Authority which sets tax rates or annual budgets and benefits  from higher property valuations.  State law has preserved this independence. The operation of the office has oversight from the Florida Department of Revenue.
